How to: Save Money on Beauty Products

Recently i've noticed just how much money I have actually spent on products that sometimes hardly ever use! I know countless of girls that do the same and it's getting to that time of the year that I really should be saving up for presents! or maybe you just want to cut back the amount you are spending due to your budget now being lower or possibly saving up for something (:

So here are a few of my tips on how to do so:

1. This may sound really obvious but actually use up ALL of your products, you will be surprised just how much product is wasted due to the packaging and lids not being put on properly meaning they dry up so much more quickly!

If you'd like to see ways that I try to make the most of my products click here  (:

2. Limit yourself to only a few higher end/more expensive products that you feel you can't live without - for example I love my urban decay eyeshadows and when I use them up I would rather spend the money on them again rather than search for ones of similar colour and quality.

3. Before purchasing a product that you have seen, look up some reviews on google or youtube. Surely someone has something to say about it making it a lot easier for you to determine if it will be worth the money or not (:

4. Stock up on your favourite products that you know you will get the use out of when they are on sale/offer! Could save you quite a bit of money in the long run as you won't have to repurchase for a while which means extra cash.

5. Try and find some dupes for higher end products that you like that are a cheaper alternative that you can swap to such as, MUA have got dupes for the Urban Decay Primer Potion and Naked Palette which I have heard some great things about! Even if you have had a look around and can't find what you are looking for you could always google or youtube these things too as there are many many many videos and blog posts about this.

6. Sign up for a rewards card in Boots, Superdrug, House of Fraser etc, with the amount that you could be spending on make up, skincare, haircare even meal deals and magazines you get money back in which you can use to purchase some pieces of make up once you have collected up enough points. This is a good way to save up and get that one particular pricey product as you aren't technically spending any money on it - although it may take some time to get that many points it's still a great thing to have and Boots always seem to have on special deals to earn extra points!

7. Only buy products that you need! Do you need 3 different shades of red lipstick? Do you need 4 black eyeliners? I'll admit I am one for just buying something because I have the money in my purse; if you can restrain yourself then this should help you keep some extra pennies (:

Hopefully this helps some of you lovely ladies save up for something nice (:

Review: Lee Stafford Beach Babe Sea Salt Spray

"If you love the look and feel of just stepped out of the sea, naturally sun dried hair then you will be swept away by this spray"
Directions: simply spray approximately 10 times (adjust to suit) over towel dried hair and gently blow dry or for the ultimate beach goddess look just leave to dry naturally it's as simple as that!

Overall: I love love love this product, it's great for on those days that you are either running late or just have no motivation to do something with your hair. My natural hair is a little wavy and can be quite messy if I leave it to air dry but when blow-dried or brushed/combed while wet it will then just become frizzy and can't do anything with it unless use heat on it! So this spray is great to just spritz on my hair and go as it may even make your hair dry just that little bit quicker and gives gorgeous natural waves.
Texture & Smell: This does not leave your hair sticky or crispy if used properly, I tried applying this onto second day hair that I had just sprayed with water and this did not work in the slightest, made my hair feel sticky and look quite greasy. I can't decide if I like the smell of this product, it's strange! It's not a bad smell but it's not something I would say I liked - it just smells like a hair product! I am so bad with describing smells :(
I use this product maybe once or twice a week depending on my hair and how much of a rush I am in but hardly any of the product has been used! Which is amazing as I feel like I always use so much on my hair meaning it is completely worth the money!

Hope this helps!

Make the most out of your products!

Time to save yourself some money and actually use up all of your products! You may not be aware of how much product is actually wasted due to the shape of the bottle, pumps, applicators etc.

The easiest way to use up as much product as possible is to cut it open - if it can be cut that is. Products that I find to be the worst are foundations, primers and mascaras just because of their shape. So here are some techniques I use to get as much product as possible!

Mascaras: When trying to get as much use out of mascaras there tends to be not much you can do as the product may have dried up as you are using it but I have a technique just for those days that you feel you have completely run out and don't have time to get another one! This usually only works for 1-2 days: firstly you will get a mug and fill it half way with boiling water then place your mascara tube into the water and leave for a minute or two. I find it is better to take the wand out as I have had the brush slightly melt and disfigure a little in the past!

Foundations: Usually foundations come in glass bottles therefore making it rather tricky to get it out so what I have found works best can take quite a while so I recommend once you feel the product is running out to do this the night before you'd like to use it again. This method does require a separate container - so you will remove the lid/pump off your foundation, tip the foundation over and into your other container and just leave it there over night. It does take a while but I have found that there is actually quite a lot of product left over, enough for maybe another week in my case.

Primers: I have only been using Urban Decays Primer Potion so I am unaware of other primers but I have found that this bottle seems to waste the most amount of product! If you were to throw out the bottle without cutting it open you'd be wasting probably more than half - which is quite ridiculous considering the price of it. So I would just take a chopping board and a sharp knife (if you are younger you should get an adult to help you) and slice it open to scoop the remaining product out and into a separate container.

I've just used the container for my "Kick Ass Concealer" by Soap and Glory to store the remaining product. As you can see there is SO much product that could have been wasted!

Review: Benetint

Benetint

A rose tinted lip and cheek stain

Directions: Brush three strokes on the apples of your cheeks and blend quickly with fingertip. Apply on the lips and blend - for a deeper pop of colour, repeat. It's the sexiest flush you can get from a bottle!

First thoughts: I was really excited to try this product and had put off buying it for quite a while due to the price; then I seen a smaller sample size coming free with Instyle magazine last month, so I didn't hesitate to pick it up purely for the free gift. The first thing I noticed about the product is the smell, it can be quite strong but then again i'm not too keen on the smell of roses; so this is just a personal preference - it doesn't smell bad at all! (:

Overall: The colour is beautiful and can be built up which is always a plus depending on whether you want a more subtle or dramatic flush of colour. Also the fact that it is a multi-purpose product is great as you can get more use out of it!
The application of the product must be carried out rather quickly though as I made the mistake of putting three strokes on both my cheeks both blending which means I ended up with three patches that were slightly darker as the product had already started to sink into my skin so was a bit of trial and error but once I got the hang of how to apply the product I fell in love with it!
Using it on the lips is a little different as it is different to the other types of lip stains I have in my collection. They all tend to dry quite quickly whereas this one I feel like I can't put my lips together until the product is completely dry or it will just disappear which is rather odd! The colour once dried though it really nice and again can be repeated to create a much darker shade of pink (: An advantage of this is that it does not dry out your lips which I have yet to find another stain that does not do this to my lips! So 5/5 on that aspect!

The only bad points that I can pick out of this product are the fact that the smell is quite strong but then a lot of people do like the smell of roses and i'm just picky! So that's not going to affect everyone as it's a personal preference and that it takes a little bit longer to dry than some other products as if i'm in a rush I don't really have time to sit around waiting for it to dry before ensuring my make up is fine and can head out the door!

I would completely recommend this product to anyone who hasn't tried it and I am 100% purchasing this in full size once the one I have runs out!

OOTD: Subtle Halloween Look

Happy Halloween!!

Sadly today I'm off to work and can't go out trick or treating, to a party, into town tonight etc. That means no costumes for me today! :( So I thought i'd subtly add a little something different to my make up to jazz things up and slightly dress up, but not haha (:

This is what I wore today:

  • Forever 21 Blazer
  • H&M Shirt Dress
  • Primark Leopard Belt
  • Primark Tights

On my eyes I wore Urban Decay: Half Baked on the lid, smog in the crease and darkhorse to deepen up the outer corner, I then took liquid liner and lined my eyes creating a wing. To jazz up the make up I took the eyeliner and made "C" and "O" shapes to create a leopard print effect.

Lush Haul + Mini Reviews

I recently had a little trip to Lush and picked up some goodies! So thought I'd share with you guys what I bought and also little reviews of what I think so far (:

 "So White" Bath Bomb -

A bath of pure white apple temptation on the outside – a secret colourful heart on the inside.

To me this is a very fresh and clean smelling bath bomb therefore it's great for either male or female! The water then turns pink, it doesn't contain any glitter or such therefore it doesn't leave a rim which some lush bath bombs do leave meaning I need to properly clean my bath afterwards! Would 100% repurchase this - great for stocking fillers etc for the cold Winter nights! (:

 "Happy Blooming" Bath Melt -

Cocoa butter and passionflower seed oil will soften and nourish the skin. We’ve also packed this with calamine powder to give a cool, smooth feel when you step out of the bath.
We’ve packed as much fruit into this little bar as we could – with dried cherries, freshly-squeezed passion fruits and a lovely cherry fragrance.

This product smells so good, sweet and fruity! Yummy (: It's very soft to the skin and will melt very quickly as it starts to melt even with the heat from my hands. I have yet to try this in the bath myself but I have heard many great things about this product. Another great thing about this is you can break it into three pieces to enjoy on three different occasions. I have also heard that these are getting discontinued so if you enjoy this product - get down to Lush and stock up!

"Vanilla Puff" Dusting Powder -

A blend of light powders to slide over the skin leaving it silky to the touch – combined with a rich vanilla fragrance that lasts for hours.

This was the product that surprised me most as I'm not one to be all that keen on Vanilla scented products but as soon as I picked it up I knew I had to get it! Strange... either way, it's lovely and does just as it says; left my skin really soft and the scent lasted for quite a while - it wasn't too strong either therefore didn't alter the scent of my perfume and such.

"Honey I Washed The Kids" Soap -

You can wash the kids in this if you want, but make sure you get your share of this honey toffee-scented addictive soap! Don’t blame us if a fight breaks out over it - buy several to avoid family rifts. The family that washes together stays together.

Favourite soap from Lush! Will forever continue to repurchase, so sweet and just smells and feels amazing. Nothing else I can say about it really (:

"Fresh Farmacy" - Cleanser - Sample Size

To make this soap gentle enough for use on the face, we cut down the amount of soap in it and replace it with other ingredients to help the skin. This makes a mild soap that is great for both face and body.

This cleanser is nice, it does the job but i'm not that keen on the scent. In my opinion nothing special and I usually prefer a cleanser in liquid form. So this is something that I wouldn't recommend which is quite unusual as Lush products are amazing!

Make Up for Sick Days

Feeling rubbish? Have a cold or even just not had enough sleep but still need to look presentable? Here's how to achieve a simple look that will make you look more awake and healthy! (:

Face:
Soap and Glory- The Righteous Butter & Revelon ColorStay.
A tinted moisturiser would be best suited for your skin while ill as this is very quick and is easily blendable. If you do not have a tinted moisturiser at hand then use your favourite moisturiser and a thin layer of foundation .

Revelon PhotoReady concealer & DaintyDoll concealer
Use concealer to hide the purple/dark circles under your eyes (one with a yellow undertone will work best as it will cancel out the purple), around your nose and any blemishes.

Elf Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder
The light pink will put just that little flush of colour into your cheeks, giving your skin that nice healthy glowy appearance. Using the bronzer to contour is optional but I feel if you have enough time to do so it is worth is as it slims down your face if it is looking slightly puffy. To do this you make the shapes of a '3' and an 'E' on either side of your face. Starting at your forehead  then to where your cheekbones are and under your chin, remember to blend this out.

Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion,  Naked 2 - Foxy, Bootycall and Tease, Nyx Jumbo Eye pencil - Milk
Firstly start off by priming your eyes, this will ensure that the shadows stay in place the whole day. To make the eyes look more awake use a light, slightly champagne/pink colour as this will brighten them up. Put this colour all over the lid (Bootycall) then take your crease colour (Tease- slightly darker brown/pruple colour) this will create depth and dimension, place this into the hollows of your eyes in circular motions ensuring it is well blended with the lid colour a lot of people tend to go for coral colours but I feel this makes my eyes look a lot redder than they actually are.. Highlighting under the brow is important as this will lift your eyes (Foxy). Place Nyx jumbo eye pencil in milk in the inner corners and 1/3 of the way in on the lower lashline and blend, this will again make your eyes look more awake and brighten them up.

Collection 2000 liquid liner, Maybelline colossal volume express cat eyes
Using a liquid liner to line the eyes is effective as it does not smudge as easily therefore if your eyes do water then there is less worry about having to re-do your make up. Line the top lid however you would like. Avoid lining the water line this is again if your eyes do begin to water there is no chance of it being smudged. Using waterproof mascara will again prevent any smudging!

Lips:
A coloured lip balm or butter will be most effective as it gives you that slight colour but again for smudging you don't want to be constantly touching up and these are just so easy to apply and don't need to worry about it being perfect.

Hope this helps!

Skincare Routine

Hello (:

Today I am going to be doing my skincare routine! So first of all let's start off with what type of skin I have, my skin is relatively normal but can appear to have dry patches when the colder weather kicks in! Spot wise my skin is rather clear but I do get the odd spot here and there mostly on my chin and around my nose which is also where my dry patches occur. Lovely! :(

When deciding what products to buy it is not always about the price, it's about finding the products that work best for you and your skin meaning it does take a little trial and error to find the perfect routine!

My routine is nothing too extravagant but it works for me and ranges in prices from very cheap to slightly more expensive.

Products: - Clinique Three-step clear skin routine - liquid facial soap, toner and moisturiser (I use number 2 which is for normal to dry skin)
- Soap and Glory The Righteous Butter
- SkinSystem cleansing facial wipes
- No7 Cleanse and Clear eye make up remover

Morning Routine: Firstly to begin my routine I use one the Clinique liquid facial soap to clean my face rubbing this in using circular motions then rinse with warm water and pat my face dry. I usually skip toner in the morning just as I find that when I do use it in the morning my make up looks rather patchy as the day goes on! I then use Soap and Glory the righteous butter to moisturise my face as it feels light yet gives it a lot of moisture. Then i'm all set to apply my make up for the day!

Night Routine: This is slightly longer as of course you need to remove your make up, first of all I take a SkinSystem cleansing facial wipe and get as much make up off as i can - leaving my eye liner and mascara as using a wipe just tends to  get this all over your face! After this is done I put a few drops of No7 cleanse and clear eye make up remover on to a cotton pad then placing it over my closed eye I hold it for a few seconds to let the product soak in removing most of your eye make up in one go! I then move to my clinique 3 step clear skin routine, using the facial soap the same way I did in the morning, using toner I put this on a cotton pad and quickly distribute the product all over my face and allow to dry before finishing up with the moisturiser.

Sudden Breakout! : If after all this products used I do still get the odd spot I use the "Daniele Ryan Blemish Vanishing Gel" by simply placing a small amount of product onto the spot or where I can feel a spot coming up. This will slightly dry out the area of skin which will get the spot to disappear quickly!

Hope this helps!

Make Up Storage!

I store my make up in this set of drawers purchased from Argos for £24.99. I chose this set of drawers as they are lightweight, easy to move around, don't take up much space and most importantly easy to set up yourself.

The drawers can easily be removed and cleaned as they are made of plastic which is very handy for any make up spillages! Being silver and frosted white drawers means that this will most likely fit in with any colour scheme or theme that a room may have.

You can purchase these exact drawers here:

Or a very similar set which are slightly thinner, taller and have 5 drawers here:

Review: Lee Stafford Sun Kissed Lightening Spray

The Lee Stafford Sun Kisses Lightening Spray

"4 all hair shades
1 bottle = 4 looks
  • lighten all over
  • ombré
  • highlight
  • root touch up

Over all the product I think the product is not worth the money at all if you have darker hair like myself, it has shown very little to no change in colour at all. I wanted to test this out to slightly change the bottom of my hair before I got it Ombréd professionally to see whether or not I liked it.
Texture: I found it to leave hair with a rather sticky feeling and completely dry my ends out making it look dead meaning I had to deep condition my hair a lot while using this product.
I think it will work a lot better on lighter hair - it was a long shot that this product would actually work in my dark brown hair but the fact that it states "4 all hair shades" is misleading to the customer if the effects are not showing up on darker hair.

Hope this helps!

OOTN: Engagement Drinks and Club Opening

I recently went to out to celebrate the engagement of my best friends mum and her partner so I thought I'd post what I wore! It wasn't very formal, it was just a gathering of close friends and family at a bar and then afterwards we were heading to the opening of a club (:

Personally I think the outfit had to be quite versatile - being acceptable for the engagement and the club without looking out of place at either! So can't go wrong with a LBD

As this dress is rather low at the front I decided to pair it with a pair of black tights to cover up slightly so i'm not showing too much. The red belt gives this look a pop of colour so it's not too dull and all black!

Jewellery - Long key neclace from lipsy and silver shambala bracelt

I opted for wedges as I was going to be on my feet for longer throughout the day - these wedges are super comfortable as the strap makes them a lot easier to walk in!

This (very) small black bag is perfect for nights out as it's a cross body bag and doesn't get in the way. It's just big enough for a small purse, keys and those essential make up pieces (:

Dress - H&M
Tights - 40 Denier; Primark
Wedges - New Look
Belt - Primark
Bag - New Look
Lips - Topshop Berry lip marker
