How to: Save Money on Beauty Products

Recently i've noticed just how much money I have actually spent on products that sometimes hardly ever use! I know countless of girls that do the same and it's getting to that time of the year that I really should be saving up for presents! or maybe you just want to cut back the amount you are spending due to your budget now being lower or possibly saving up for something (:

So here are a few of my tips on how to do so:

1. This may sound really obvious but actually use up ALL of your products, you will be surprised just how much product is wasted due to the packaging and lids not being put on properly meaning they dry up so much more quickly!

If you'd like to see ways that I try to make the most of my products click here  (:

2. Limit yourself to only a few higher end/more expensive products that you feel you can't live without - for example I love my urban decay eyeshadows and when I use them up I would rather spend the money on them again rather than search for ones of similar colour and quality.

3. Before purchasing a product that you have seen, look up some reviews on google or youtube. Surely someone has something to say about it making it a lot easier for you to determine if it will be worth the money or not (:

4. Stock up on your favourite products that you know you will get the use out of when they are on sale/offer! Could save you quite a bit of money in the long run as you won't have to repurchase for a while which means extra cash.

5. Try and find some dupes for higher end products that you like that are a cheaper alternative that you can swap to such as, MUA have got dupes for the Urban Decay Primer Potion and Naked Palette which I have heard some great things about! Even if you have had a look around and can't find what you are looking for you could always google or youtube these things too as there are many many many videos and blog posts about this.

6. Sign up for a rewards card in Boots, Superdrug, House of Fraser etc, with the amount that you could be spending on make up, skincare, haircare even meal deals and magazines you get money back in which you can use to purchase some pieces of make up once you have collected up enough points. This is a good way to save up and get that one particular pricey product as you aren't technically spending any money on it - although it may take some time to get that many points it's still a great thing to have and Boots always seem to have on special deals to earn extra points!

7. Only buy products that you need! Do you need 3 different shades of red lipstick? Do you need 4 black eyeliners? I'll admit I am one for just buying something because I have the money in my purse; if you can restrain yourself then this should help you keep some extra pennies (:

Hopefully this helps some of you lovely ladies save up for something nice (:

Review: Lee Stafford Beach Babe Sea Salt Spray

"If you love the look and feel of just stepped out of the sea, naturally sun dried hair then you will be swept away by this spray"
Directions: simply spray approximately 10 times (adjust to suit) over towel dried hair and gently blow dry or for the ultimate beach goddess look just leave to dry naturally it's as simple as that!

Overall: I love love love this product, it's great for on those days that you are either running late or just have no motivation to do something with your hair. My natural hair is a little wavy and can be quite messy if I leave it to air dry but when blow-dried or brushed/combed while wet it will then just become frizzy and can't do anything with it unless use heat on it! So this spray is great to just spritz on my hair and go as it may even make your hair dry just that little bit quicker and gives gorgeous natural waves.
Texture & Smell: This does not leave your hair sticky or crispy if used properly, I tried applying this onto second day hair that I had just sprayed with water and this did not work in the slightest, made my hair feel sticky and look quite greasy. I can't decide if I like the smell of this product, it's strange! It's not a bad smell but it's not something I would say I liked - it just smells like a hair product! I am so bad with describing smells :(
I use this product maybe once or twice a week depending on my hair and how much of a rush I am in but hardly any of the product has been used! Which is amazing as I feel like I always use so much on my hair meaning it is completely worth the money!

Make the most out of your products!

Time to save yourself some money and actually use up all of your products! You may not be aware of how much product is actually wasted due to the shape of the bottle, pumps, applicators etc.

The easiest way to use up as much product as possible is to cut it open - if it can be cut that is. Products that I find to be the worst are foundations, primers and mascaras just because of their shape. So here are some techniques I use to get as much product as possible!

Mascaras: When trying to get as much use out of mascaras there tends to be not much you can do as the product may have dried up as you are using it but I have a technique just for those days that you feel you have completely run out and don't have time to get another one! This usually only works for 1-2 days: firstly you will get a mug and fill it half way with boiling water then place your mascara tube into the water and leave for a minute or two. I find it is better to take the wand out as I have had the brush slightly melt and disfigure a little in the past!

Foundations: Usually foundations come in glass bottles therefore making it rather tricky to get it out so what I have found works best can take quite a while so I recommend once you feel the product is running out to do this the night before you'd like to use it again. This method does require a separate container - so you will remove the lid/pump off your foundation, tip the foundation over and into your other container and just leave it there over night. It does take a while but I have found that there is actually quite a lot of product left over, enough for maybe another week in my case.

Primers: I have only been using Urban Decays Primer Potion so I am unaware of other primers but I have found that this bottle seems to waste the most amount of product! If you were to throw out the bottle without cutting it open you'd be wasting probably more than half - which is quite ridiculous considering the price of it. So I would just take a chopping board and a sharp knife (if you are younger you should get an adult to help you) and slice it open to scoop the remaining product out and into a separate container.

I've just used the container for my "Kick Ass Concealer" by Soap and Glory to store the remaining product. As you can see there is SO much product that could have been wasted!

Review: Benetint

Benetint

A rose tinted lip and cheek stain

Directions: Brush three strokes on the apples of your cheeks and blend quickly with fingertip. Apply on the lips and blend - for a deeper pop of colour, repeat. It's the sexiest flush you can get from a bottle!

First thoughts: I was really excited to try this product and had put off buying it for quite a while due to the price; then I seen a smaller sample size coming free with Instyle magazine last month, so I didn't hesitate to pick it up purely for the free gift. The first thing I noticed about the product is the smell, it can be quite strong but then again i'm not too keen on the smell of roses; so this is just a personal preference - it doesn't smell bad at all! (:

Overall: The colour is beautiful and can be built up which is always a plus depending on whether you want a more subtle or dramatic flush of colour. Also the fact that it is a multi-purpose product is great as you can get more use out of it!
The application of the product must be carried out rather quickly though as I made the mistake of putting three strokes on both my cheeks both blending which means I ended up with three patches that were slightly darker as the product had already started to sink into my skin so was a bit of trial and error but once I got the hang of how to apply the product I fell in love with it!
Using it on the lips is a little different as it is different to the other types of lip stains I have in my collection. They all tend to dry quite quickly whereas this one I feel like I can't put my lips together until the product is completely dry or it will just disappear which is rather odd! The colour once dried though it really nice and again can be repeated to create a much darker shade of pink (: An advantage of this is that it does not dry out your lips which I have yet to find another stain that does not do this to my lips! So 5/5 on that aspect!

The only bad points that I can pick out of this product are the fact that the smell is quite strong but then a lot of people do like the smell of roses and i'm just picky! So that's not going to affect everyone as it's a personal preference and that it takes a little bit longer to dry than some other products as if i'm in a rush I don't really have time to sit around waiting for it to dry before ensuring my make up is fine and can head out the door!

I would completely recommend this product to anyone who hasn't tried it and I am 100% purchasing this in full size once the one I have runs out!
